History of CwazyMail
CwazyMail was created as a free email service in September 2001, now in our nineth year we're one of the few small services still to be running and offering a totally free email address.Growing from an initial user base of three people we peaked at 110k users on CwazyMail and 90k users on Zapo.net (a rival service we took over in 2003).
In late 2005 as funding issues almost caused us to close, and we were forced to start charging for accounts, user numbers fell massively. We remained a 'for fee' service (albeit with rather relaxed enforcement) until 2009 when we began offering free accounts again.
Times have changed since 2005; today there are many more options for advertising revenue, methods to take micropayments for low cost premium features actually exist now, and server hardware / datacenter bandwidth prices are lower than ever.
The future is looking bright for us. User numbers are now growing every day and our systems are again under active development. There is new life here and we're planning to be around for long time to come.
